Nikki & James Icelandic Elopement
We spent two incredible days documenting their Icelandic elopement — two days filled with adventure, emotion, and landscapes that felt almost otherworldly.
We started the first morning by the lakes along the main road, where calm reflections of the mountains met soft, shifting light. It was quiet and peaceful — just the sound of wind moving across the water and the couple sharing their first moments together. From there, we travelled west towards the Black Church in Búðir, one of Iceland’s most iconic and timeless places to say “I do.” The dark wooden chapel stood against the vast lava fields, surrounded by dramatic clouds and the chill of the northern air.
As the evening drew in, we finished the day at the nearby lighthouse, where the ocean stretched endlessly into the horizon. The sun dipped low, wrapping everything in golden tones for a few fleeting minutes before disappearing behind the clouds. The wind was sharp, the sea roared below, and the two of them stood close together — calm, happy, and beautifully present in the moment.
The next day, we continued along Iceland’s South Coast, exploring some of its most breathtaking landmarks — from the powerful Skógafoss waterfall, where mist soaked us within seconds, to the dramatic Reynisfjara black sand beach, where towering waves crashed violently against the basalt cliffs. The conditions were extreme — cold, wet, and windy — but their energy never faded. They laughed, embraced, and completely trusted the process, turning every challenge into magic.
They were a dream to photograph — kind, patient, and utterly in love. This is what makes Iceland elopements so unforgettable: the combination of raw nature, unpredictable weather, and genuine emotion. It’s not about perfect conditions — it’s about real moments, wild beauty, and the joy of being together in one of the most extraordinary places on Earth.

D&A’s Iceland elopement was short but absolutely unforgettable — a full day filled with breathtaking views, laughter, and raw emotion.
We started early in the morning, travelling along Iceland’s South Coast, where every turn of the road revealed something new and spectacular. Their first look took place near Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. The roar of the water echoed all around, and a fine mist covered us within seconds. They stood there, holding each other close, completely immersed in the moment. The light kept changing — from soft grey to golden flashes breaking through the clouds — creating an atmosphere that felt truly cinematic.
From there, we explored hidden spots nearby — small streams, moss-covered rocks, and open fields shaped by wind and time. They were wonderful to photograph: relaxed, genuine, and full of connection. Even in the cold, they couldn’t stop smiling.
The day ended perfectly with a visit to a natural hot spring pool, where steam rose into the crisp evening air. Surrounded by mountains and the sound of bubbling water, they finally had a quiet moment to warm up, breathe, and just be together. It was peaceful, intimate, and the perfect way to close a day that celebrated love in its purest form.
Their Iceland elopement may have lasted just one day, but it told a lifetime’s worth of stories — a beautiful mix of adventure, tenderness, and the wild Icelandic spirit.
